The plot to D.C. writer Patricia Browning Griffith’s Supporting the Sky reads like a cross between Judy Bloom’s Wifey and Jodie Foster’s little-seen Thanksgiving epic, Home for the Holidays: Single mom frustrated with horny daughter finds solace—and a little nookie—in handsome and intriguing man. The novel is also semi-autobiographical, including certain particularities of the District and the author’s Texas background. Figure out which ones when Griffith reads at 2 p.m. at the Writer’s Center, 4301 Walsh St., Bethesda. $5. For reservations call (301) 654-8664. (Tina Plottel)
