Success! You're on the list.

If the success of Cold Rice’s ambitious Wednesday night “Sounds & Pressure” is any indication, there could be a new scene being made in D.C. Leave it to the post-punks to enliven midweek nightlife when it needs it bad. Kaffa House is a perfect environment for Mr. G, the Mighty Flashlight, and White Chocolate to warm up their decks while the young set let go of their frustrations on the floor. Raw soul dance tracks, Hammond-organ jams, and Studio One–style dub are Cold Rice staples, but lately more and more techno (straight outta Cologne) and jungle tracks are filling the space. The scenester level may be intimidatingly high, but it’s an entirely different scene, isn’t it? From 10 p.m.-2 a.m. at Kaffa House, 1212 U St. NW. FREE. (202) 462-1212. (John Dugan)
