Just finished “Lost
Highway” (9/27). That is one terrific piece of writing. I don’t normally get to read much fiction, as I don’t have the time, but Eddie Dean’s writing goes down smoother than most novelists’. The characters, the scenes, the emotions; he is a superb writer. It was truly a joy.
Have you ever thought of compiling the best writing of Washington City Paper into a book of some sort? Another one of my favorites was the story a few years back about the Storybook Land park (“Fractured Fairy Tales,” 1/20/95). The salient quote that I’ve never forgotten: “Humpty Dumpty didn’t fall…he was pushed.”
Writing like Dean’s and others on your staff should not be forgotten after just one week. Please keep up the good work.
