What was up when Eddie Dean was writing “Lost Highway” (9/27)? I believe he’s been hanging around some of the characters he wrote about for too long. Or perhaps it was all that drinkin’? Route 1 is certainly not your typical Main Street, USA; however, it is hardly the “armpit” of Virginia, as Dean made it sound. He barely mentioned the fact that there are plenty of thriving businesses, decent hard-working people, and the like along the route. I’ve lived there for a month now and only after reading Mr. Dean’s venomous article did I even notice some of the “less fortunate” business ventures!

Lighten up, Dean. Don’t knock it ’til ya live it.
