The story in Washing-

ton City Paper concerning the huge number of frivolous lawsuits filed in D.C. (“A Boy Named Sue,” 9/27) is all too true. The fact that a disproportionate number of these frivolous lawsuits originate from prisons is mentioned in the story. This is something I can readily attest to. Over the past 25 years, in various jails and prisons, I have met scores of these “jailhouse lawyers.” They all work day and night on their cases, year after year.

Here in Virginia, my bunkmates on either side of me are both jailhouse lawyers. Two of the cases they are currently working on involve suing Virginia because the night lights are too bright, and also because, supposedly, female correctional officers have watched them while they were taking showers.

I should be so lucky.
