One of the letters in
the Mail 10/4 mentioned briefly the Dixie Pig on the north side of Old Town (Alexandria). I presume the reference is to the little Dixie Pig restaurant at the corner of Bashford Lane and Powhatan Street.
You might find a story in this little restaurant’s struggle to survive against efforts of residential neighbors newly moved into the area to close it. Sort of like the story of the congregation that built a church next to a saloon and then tried to have the saloon closed.
A similar story is that of the residential area known as “The Berg” in its struggle to survive against affluent owners of the new town houses in the area.
