It would be a shame if Grant Lee Buffalo’s only claim to fame were Joey Peters’ replacement of an aneurysmal Bill Berry. Since its European tour with R.E.M., GLB has received much praise from the press but hardly any from the public. Perhaps that will change with the band’s third album. Copperopolis (named after a mining town in northern California) stands out among American roots-rock, with more melody than Bob Dylan could ever sing and more soul than Wilco could ever muster. With 16 Horsepower at 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $9. (202) 393-0930. (Tina Plottel)
