Beres Hammond has been singing love songs since the ’70s, but he has been considered Jamaica’s pre-eminent reggae crooner only since hooking up with state-of-the-art dancehall producers in the early ’90s. On Love From a Distance, Hammond’s R&B-rooted quaver yearns passionately but never overemotes. Ranging from timeless ballads to faddish pop, Hammond dispenses another solid, exquisitely recorded set of his lush songs. With roots-rasta warbler Freddie McGreggor and longtime Marley backing vocalist Marcia Griffiths at 9 p.m. at Crossroads, 4103 Baltimore Ave., Bladensburg. $30. (301) 927-1056. (Steve Kiviat)
