Billy Bragg and Robyn Hitchcock are iconoclasts with populist streaks, would-be hitmakers who remain cult heroes because their personalities run far left of the mainstream. Bragg’s latest, William Bloke, adds a few solid gems to a repertoire deep enough to incite either revolution or careless affection. Hitchcock is touring behind Moss Elixir, his best album since he started recording for a major label a decade ago. Jonathan Demme is working on a Hitchcock concert film; as anyone who has seen Stop Making Sense can attest, that’s all we really need to know about Hitchcock’s gift as a performer. Tonight’s is a potentially great double bill that would’ve been a nice option at the ballot box. Here’s hoping for a few duets. At 8 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $20. (202) 393-0930. (BA)
