At Small Factory gigs, the momentum was often undermined by jokiness. Now that the trio has slimmed down to a duo called the Godrays, there seems to be even more room for silliness. The band’s debut, Songs for TV Stars, has a pointless funk motif and too many overly offhand moments. When the twosome turns its attention to actual songs, though, the result can be such pop-revival gems as “Crack You Up” and “Crummy.” With Ruby Falls and Gefilte Fish at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (Mark Jenkins)
