There’s a song on 764-Hero’s debut album, Salt Sinks and Sugar Floats, called “Quadrophenia,” but this Seattle band couldn’t be further from rock operaor from Soundgarden, for that matter. This duoJohn Atkins, formerly of Hush Harbor, and Polly Johnson (ex-Bell Jar)prefers the intimate to the epic; the stark yearning of the quieter songs suggests everything from the early Go-Betweens (I’m Not Going Anywhere”) to the early Modern Lovers (“Gospel Truth”). The band opens for sometime Spinane Rebecca Gates and the formerly Unrestful Phil Krauth at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (MJ)
