In the 11/8 Washington City Paper (“Crude Awakening”) I was introduced to a most ingenious new real estate marketing scheme. It goes something like this: Create a large-scale environmental disaster, tell everyone it isn’t that bad, show them that the community is as safe as ever, and if the community is still in doubt, buy them off. When the above steps are followed you should notice a net immigration into your community with minimal decline in property values. In case you didn’t catch “Crude Awakening,” this just what happened/is happening in Mantua, Va.
