Ravers may think that it takes 5 million decibels, NASA-quality laser lights, and a constant supply of Ecstasy to create dance-floor delirium. Not so. The true formula is a simple seven-piece recipe: stride piano, upright bass, fat-back drums, three honking saxophones, and former Swingin’ Johnsons shouter E. Duato Scheer’s insistent tenor. The package is called the Love Dogs, and when they slobber their jump-blues/bounce-boogie all over you, you’ll be cutting a rug like you’d been working at Bill’s Carpet Barn your whole life. The Dogs are perfectly suited for a retro venue; they appear tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Hollywood Ballroom, 2168-38 Industrial Pkwy., Silver Spring. $15. (703) 698-9811. (Dave Nuttycombe)
