While seeing D.C./Balto. bands cover Louisiana R&B and zydeco standards at Phantasmagoria’s first “Crawfish Festival” can’t compare with hearing the real thing, it is cheaper than a plane ticket. Tendering passion, proficiency, and fun, if not originality, the fest’s 10-hour bill will include the strong-voiced blues of Cindy Cain & the Marvelous Merks, the Professor Longhairish shuffles of both the Red Hot Swinging Johnsons and Lone Starlet, the potent Irma Thomas-style soul of Krewe of Renegades, and the accordion and rubboard-propelled zydeco and Tex-Mex of Gumbo Junkyard. Plus dance workshops and lots of spicy Cajun and creole cuisine. From 3 p.m.-1 a.m. at Phantasmagoria, 11319 Elkin St., Wheaton. $15. (301) 949-8886. (Steve Kiviat)
