Made (literally) under the gun by French literary lion Andre Malraux—and based on one section of his novel of the same name—L’Espoir documents the anti-Franco forces with whom Malraux fought. Though the fictional portions are not well regarded, the film includes much documentary footage of both historical interest and emotional power. A discussion of Malraux’s life and work will follow the screening. At 7 p.m. at La Maison Francaise, French Embassy, 4101 Reservoir Rd. NW. FREE. (202) 944-6090. (Mark Jenkins)
