Can you identify the pattern here: Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show Theme,” Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” and “You’re Having My Baby.” If you suspect a Canadian conspiracy, you are correct. Those defining American anthems were written by Ottawa native Paul Anka. Now an exceptionally tanned 55, the Vegas regular was part of the teen-idol pack that ruled the pop charts in the late ’50s and early ’60s. At the height of Anka’s Brylcreemed glory, a Canadian (!) camera crew captured the hysteria he inspired in the documentary, Paul Anka ’62. One hopes he was caught singing “The Teen Commandments.” Screened as part of Larry Appelbaum’s “Jazz on Film” series; the WPFW radio host will add some much-needed perspective. At 7 p.m. at Borders, 18th & L Sts. NW. FREE. (202) 466-4999. (Dave Nuttycombe)
