It never fails: Every time the expression “I could care less” appears in print,
someone writes in to insist that it should be “I couldn’t care less” (The Mail, 11/22). For some
reason it doesn’t seem to bother these people when “big deal” is used to mean “that’s not important,” or “great” to mean “oh no, how awful.” It’s called irony, folks.
