It’s hard to imagine, but the U.S.A. used to be an incredibly unironic country. The National Archives’ Motion Picture branch can prove it, and will today with a Holiday Film Presentation of short films from its collection. Included are two silent films from the ’20s, Christmas Thoughts and Merry Christmas to All, as well as a 1949 Agriculture Department short about Xmas trees and a 1962 Movietone newsreel of noted family man JFK celebrating the season with the missus and the kids. At noon at the National Archives Theater, 7th & Pennsylvania Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 501-5000. (Mark Jenkins)
