A red-white-and-blue-clad Victorian-era Santa Claus, based on Thomas Nast’s famous drawing, visits the site of the War Between the States’ bloodiest day for the “Antietam Battlefield Civil War Christmas.” (The battle actually took place in autumn, so the more appropriate setting for the event would be in Fredericksburg, where the war raged during the winter of 1862.) A battlefield historian will present a slide show about the history of the holiday during the war. From 3-5 p.m. at Antietam National Battlefield, Route 65, Sharpsburg. FREE. (301) 432-5124.
