Stephanie Mencimer’s “The War at Home” (12/20) was well written and researched, and sympathetic within the bounds of objectivity. But to refer to the conversations of children whose mother language you don’t understand as “jabbering” is unfortunate. “Jabbering” connotes speaking nonsense or gibberish. Evidence of ethnocentrism? More likely a quick and poor choice of words.
