Eco-sensitive straight-edge dirge hardcore (an authentic subgenre of punk formally recognized by Maximum Rock and Roll at a recent black-tie ceremony) bands are big on aphorisms. Earth Crisis prints several in the booklet of its new CD, Gomorrah’s Season Ends. “All Creation lays at the mercy of madmen” is my favorite (and not just because of its lay/lie problemit would also make a dandy epitaph), though “Myself is all I need with this oath that keeps me free” is a close second. The rigid self-denial and finger-pointing fascism of garbler Karl Buechner is slightly attenuated by a tray-card call for acceptance of all races and sexual orientations, but it too has a “Be nice or I’ll kick your fucking ass” aura. And if you’re not nice? The closing track, “Forgiveness Denied,” claims “Blood for blood, the guilty must be slain.” With V.O.D. at 2 p.m. at the Capitol Ballroom, 1015 Half St. SE. $10. (202) 554-1500. (Christopher Porter)
