If I had my way, tonight’s show at the 9:30 Club would be renamed “A Bunch of Nice Guys Playing Music.” Rex has been a favorite of mine for quite a while, not only for its drawling and moody live performances, but for its laudable recordings. The Brooklyn trio’s EP, The Waltz (Southern Records), features varied instrumentation (including dobro, banjo, accordion) tempered with muted vocals. Oh yeah, and they’re also really nice guys. Rex appears with Sebadoh (more very nice guys) and Barlow/Folk Implosion collaborator John Davis (seems like a nice guy) at 7:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $10. (202) 393-0930.
