There are those who might suggest that the white suburban male’s point of view is far too ubiquitous as it is, but that hasn’t stopped the Washington Post from codifying it in the form of Steve Twomey. Twomey roams an undifferentiated edgeless city in search of column fodder and often ends up refereeing pointless suburban squabbles that have no real-world implications I can think of. He isn’t a bad writer, and when he does come across a worthy topic, he acquits himself more frequently than most Post opiners. But that doesn’t help him when there’s nothing on his screen—column deadlines must be met, after all, and he’s not averse to throwing his kid Nick into the mix when he’s a little short on items. Join Steve’s family circus when he speaks at, appropriately enough, the “Friends of Silver Spring Speaker Series” at 8 p.m. at Silver Spring Library, 8901 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring. FREE.
