Included by WPFW blues DJ Bill Wax on his 1996 best-of list, Studebaker John & the Hawks’ Tremoluxe stresses piercing, Hound Dog Taylor-derived, slide-guitar boogie. As a teenager, John saw Taylor perform in Chicago, and I can’t deny John’s proficiency at this now-ritualized rockin’ style (or his more-than-competent harmonica chops). Still, this 45-year-old regular of the barrooms of Illinois and Europe sounds most impassioned when he slips out of the mold and slows things down, as on his mournful ballad “Missing You.” At 8:30 p.m. at Twist & Shout, 4800 Auburn Ave., Bethesda. $7.
