If you just want to rock, why clutter up your sound with inessential verbiage? Trans Am doesn’t need to be convinced. On its latest release, the wordless trio combines Kraftwerkische musical jokes and G-funk synth squiggles with tongue-spraining porn-soundtrack grooves and those two bars of King Crimson you can stand, forming something suggesting incidental music for maze ‘n’ mayhem computer games that have yet to be created. Not that they’ve tried, but the band’s recordings fail to cage the beast that is live Trans Am. Prepare for a loud, funky, comic journey to still hairier virtual locales when the local thrill jockeys celebrate the release of Surrender to the Night. With Revo and the Stigmatics at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (Glenn Dixon)
