A few years and a few lineups ago, the Lilys hailed from these parts and sounded to many ears a bit too much like My Bloody Valentine. Since then, main Lily Kurt (Wally) Heasley has couch-surfed his way to Boston and put together a hell of a new band, this time with an unabashed ’60s angle. While the Lilys’ recent Better Can’t Make Your Life Better and Heasley-produced efforts by Apples in Stereo have shined in the production department, fusing indie and retro aesthetics masterfully, the current Lilys deliver the goods live. They pull off a ’90s rendition of Kinksy Merseybeat and get flirtatious with psychedelia rather than diving into it headfirst. With Saturnine and Ladybug at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960. (John Dugan)
