What is Hawaiian swing? To the Hula Monsters its encompasses a spectrum of both finger-snappin’ and slow-dancin’ styles. The local quintet’s repertoire embraces traditional Hawaiian steel guitar and ukelele pop, Bob Wills standards, and a version of the Hawaii Five-O theme that features dobro and acoustic bass. Dispensing its blend of music and humor in various incarnations at jazz and rock clubs, swing dances, luaus, and weddings since 1988, this group of local sidemen presently includes, among others, Dave Giegerich, who also plays with Kevin Johnson, former Slickee Boy Mark Noone, who’s also in Ruthie and the Wranglers and Out Behind the Barn, and recently returned original bassist Moe Nelson, who also performs with the Grandsons and the Oklahoma Twisters. At 8:30 p.m. at Twist & Shout, 4800 Auburn Ave. $5. (301) 652-3383. (Steve Kiviat)
