With the bottom falling out of major-label alternative rock, Edsel found itself tumbling down with plenty of rightfully dropped debris despite its lone big-leaguer, Techniques of Speed Hypnosis, being its finest ever. Back on an indie, with a healthy interest in dance-music technology, Edsel has a new release that tops Speed—and it’s only got four songs. Extended Play features three of the band’s best tracks (“Perched Like a Parasite,” “Shake Your Shirt,” and “Thinner Than Thin”), twisted and tweaked by Boo Radleys conspirator Andy Wilkinson, who retains Edsel’s driving rock power while rolling down its windows and letting the tunes breathe in the fresh spring air (yup, car metaphor). Edsel plays the showcase for its new label, Radiopaque, along with Cinnamon Toast and Mud at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (CP)
