Contrary to what the press release for “Rock & Roll: The New Covenant in Contemporary Music” says, it’s no secret that many if not most of the leading Brill Building songwriters in the early days of rock were Jewish; the interesting question is why that generation’s Jewish musical talent wasn’t performing, and why it took the mid-’60s examples of Jakob Dylan’s dad on the one hand, and Barbra Streisand on the other, to get Neil Diamond, Carole King, et al. onstage. Perhaps host Geoffrey Himes will have an explanation at 7:30 p.m. at D.C. Jewish Community Center, 1529 16th St. NW. $13. (202) 518-9400. (JL)
