Think that a cappella singing is a bit froufrou, a tad too pallid? That the form could benefit from the ardent conflict of sport? What ho! Are thee in luck. Comes hence a battle royal, a sweaty sing-to-the-death: The “Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition,” featuring nearly a dozen instrumentless groups. Hosted by last year’s champeens, Return to Zero, the vocal donnybrook will pit the likes of the Tone Rangers (nice one), Venus d Minor (nicer one), Company B, Synergy, D.C.’s Finest, Annapolis Vocal Corps, Doo Wa Zoo, and Da Vinci’s Notebook against each other. I’m rooting for the Notebook, because, in addition to doing metal covers and the I Dream of Jeannie theme, the group has a rockin’ web site. Yes, it’s possible. At 3 p.m. at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, 730 21st St. NW. $16. (202) 994-6800. (Dave Nuttycombe)
