David Wilcox has a sly, wry, good-natured manner that invites comparisons to Steve Martin. On his album East Asheville Hardware, a collection of humorous story-songs from his live show, he manages to make a ditty titled “After Your Orgasm” into a sweet ode. In “Johnny’s Camaro,” he paints an amusingly compelling picture of a woman’s liberation that any man can appreciate. But Wilcox is an earnest singer/songwriter, not just a comedian. That means he can also put a lump in your throat. And you won’t resent him for doing so. At 8 p.m. tonight and Thursday at the Barns of Wolf Trap, 1624 Trap Rd., Vienna. $17. (703) 938-2404. (DN)
