Since the 1980s, New York- and Miami-based Nouvel Jenerayshun bands have transformed Haiti’s signature dance music, compas, via their use of sleek R&B- and pop-influenced vocals and zouk/disco-derived synth instrumentation. Tonight’s “French Caribbean Gala” will feature one such group, New York’s Zin, which will be making its first D.C.-area appearance in five years. While its glossy, international dance-club stylings sometimes lack soul, the ensemble’s occasional incorporation of earthy salsa percussion and vibrant soukous guitar should satisfy partygoers who like their sounds a bit more raw. At 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn’s Versailles Room, 8120 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda. $25. (301) 585-7899. (Steve Kiviat)
