Although Sky Blues will soon appear on a T. Rex tribute album, don’t search for the Jeepster’s influence on the band’s new album, In Time; the Blues remain rooted in mainstream ’70s hard rock. It’s the quartet’s solid songwriting, not its style, that distinguishes it from all the other ’70s-struck New York bands that sound like partially defrosted Phish sticks. The Blues, whose D.C. connection is guitarist/bassist Jon Rubin’s tenure at American University, play a record-release show with Bovine and Sleestack at 8 p.m. at the Bayou, 3135 K St. NW. $6. (202) 333-2987. (Mark Jenkins)
