Daniel Lanois wouldn’t seem any better suited to produce a Beasties’ prodigy than he was to collaborate with Dylan or the Neville Brothers. But Luscious Jackson has always had a sound all its own, sharing with its mentors only an ultrafan sensibility and a record label. On Fever In Fever Out, Lanois helps the band prove it, lacing the soft grooves into the background in order to present not just jams but songs. As you’ll see this evening, there’s still plenty of funk beneath the brooding—it’s just no longer the bottom line. At 9 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 393-0930. (BA)
