This is in response to the lady who complained about the media’s unfair characterization of D.C. government workers in the 3/28 Mail.

While it is true that government workers are generally derided and stereotyped, I’d argue that it is, in this case at least, justified. Having lived in D.C. for the last four years and experienced government bureaucracy at varying levels, a lot of which is plainly due to the incompetence of the workers, I share the stereotype that many people do. I don’t think anything the media does influences my view.

Of course, there may be a few government workers who do their jobs in a highly professional manner, but a few rotten fruits are enough to ruin the fruit salad. In this case, I’d argue a majority of the fruits are rotten.
