TUESDAY
Did anyone really like Extreme? The only memorable things about the band were that the lead singer looked as if he was hiding Brussels sprouts in his cheeks and the guitarist was, well, gorgeous. Today, while the amazing chipmunk man supersedes haggard Sammy Hagar in Van Halen, the lovely Nuno Bettencourt drops his former bandmates and his last name and finally launches his solo career. Nuno’s new release, Schizophonic, delves into his loves, lies, and life lessons, proving he’s more than a pair of luscious lips: “A prisoner/I’m the warden too/Nothin’ worse than self-made misery/If Moses truly parted the sea/Then can I quit smoking?” Actually, maybe it was better when he just sat there and looked pretty. With Kristen Barry at 8 p.m. at the Bayou, 3135 K St. NW. $12. (202) 333-2897. (Elisa Nader)
