I am a junior in the Humanities honor course at H.D. Woodson Senior High School in northeast Washington, D.C. I read “Escape from DCPS” (3/28), and after reading that article I felt sad and angered. Feeling that people might get the wrong idea about Woodson and its counselors, I was compelled to depict a fair picture of our counselors.
Woodson is a good school and has good counselors. Like anything in life, nothing just happens without trying. If you want to succeed, you have to try. We have several great programs at Woodson that students do not take advantage of. “Get involved in everything” is something I tell my peers, don’t just wait until it is too late and then shift the blame.
Though some people have had bad experiences, whether by chance or lack of self-preparation, it is not the end of the world. If at first you don’t succeed, try again.
