The Folklore Society of Greater Washington sponsors contra and square dances every Sunday night at the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park. There is always a live band, and dancers of all experience levels are welcomed (“walk-throughs” are provided). Playing for tonight’s contra dance is the New England-based Wild Asparagus, whose distinctive instrumental lineup—concertina, bodhrán, woodwinds, keyboard, guitar, and bass—and swingin’ rhythms have made the band one of the top attractions on the folk-dance circuit. And beginners take note: By all accounts, caller George Marshall’s instructions are easily understood by novices. At 7:30 p.m. at Glen Echo Park’s Spanish Ballroom, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo. $8. (202) 546-2228. (Ken Roseman)
