“Ultraworld Ritual” is so named because the promoters want to link their production to ceremonies that have “been the spiritual center of cultures much older than ours.” Even if the connection between quasi-religious practices of yore and techno culture’s standardized blend of dance, baggy clothing, “intelligent” lighting, and booming beats is tenuous, it will be intriguing to see if the headlining DJs can make their own ritualized techniques signify something greater. Philly-based European fave Josh Wink layers ambient synth shadings with spoken-word and noise samples over disco backbeats, while U.K. drum ‘n’ bass man LTJ Bukem submerges his frenetic electrobeats in a spacey new-agey glaze, puncturing it on occasion with nature sounds, looped diva testifying, and MC Conrad’s reggae-inflected rapping. With Rabbit in the Moon and DJs Scott Henry, Halo, and Anthony Scott from 2 p.m.-2 a.m. at the D.C. Armory, 2001 East Capitol St. $30. (202) 547-9077. (Steve Kiviat)
