Led by acoustic guitarist Christine Balfa, southwestern Louisiana’s Balfa Toujours carries on the Cajun dance-music tradition of Balfa’s late father Dewey and his brothers. On the band’s third effort, Deux Voyages, Christine alternates French lead vocals with her accordionist husband, as well as with the fiddle player and the drummer. Serving up the usual bayou potpourri of originals, covers, and traditional tunes, this outfit, young by Acadian music standards, is equally adept at somber, sauntering waltzes and joyous, rockin’ hoedowns. Even if one doesn’t comprehend the language, the clever arrangements and keen playing astutely convey the lyrical sentiments. At 8 p.m. at Twist & Shout, 4800 Auburn Ave., Bethesda. $10. (301) 652-3383. (SK)
