When does Bobby Radcliff’s quick-fingered blues ax-picking sound best? Before his 1989 move to New York City, this trio leader from Bethesda spent time in Chicago learning Buddy Guy’s flashy pyrotechnics and Magic Sam’s controlled, soulful strumming. Guitar Player types will salivate when they hear the long, fretboard-happy solos on his new CD, Live at the Rynborn. Those like me, who prefer some rhythm with their blues, will find his less sprawling fingerwork on funky, short numbers like “Kool and the Gang” more compelling. At 9:30 p.m. at Twist & Shout, 4800 Auburn Ave., Bethesda. $8. (301) 652-3383. (Steve Kiviat)
