FRIDAY

Noble reasons to turn out in support of the University of the District of Columbia today: preserving the right of underprivileged students to a university education, helping an institution that sponsors programs in farming and mortuary sciences, and sticking up for the right of the District to try to manage its own college. But keep one thing in mind—the $25 ticket price for the “All Out for Public Higher Education in the District of Columbia” festival concert is several times more than the average UDC alumnus has donated to the impoverished school over the last 10 years. No wonder the school is trying to raise $20 million by sponsoring concerts, bake sales, carwashes, and other stunts that don’t involve dunning its less-than-supportive alums. From 2:30-9:30 p.m. at University of the District of Columbia Auditorium, 4200 Connecticut Ave. NW. $25. (202) 274-5596. (Stephanie Mencimer)
