There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
By publicizing their shows with Globe posters and rare announcements on WPFW, the Solar Eclipse and Lamont’s are quietly keeping chitlin’-circuit R&B alive. While there’s not an Aretha or Al Green on the bill, the performers at Lamont’s “Pre-Mother’s Day Extravaganza” should stir up a soulful conflation of churchgoing testimony, bluesy lust, and down-but-not-out humor. For 20-plus years headliner Roy C. has been emoting smoky tales of infidelity on albums such as Sex and Soul. Meanwhile, Little Royal has been perfecting his “Soul Brother No. 2” rasp, ‘do, and duds in homage to James Brown, and creating new dance crazes like the “Razor Blade.” With Lee Fields, Kimmy and Klasse, Frankie Stewart’s Wonn Band, and others at 3 p.m. at Lamont’s Night Club, 4400 Livingston Rd., Pomonkey. $20. (301) 350-3040. (SK)
