MONDAY

Will Oldham’s obsession is personal tragedy, not band rehearsal. So his solo gigs are always more coherent than the various live incarnations of Palace. Tonight’s gig makes even more sense because Palace Music’s latest, Lost Blues and Other Songs, isn’t really a new Palace album but an assortment of small treasures, alternate takes, and live tracks that Oldham has released under various names over the years. Such collections tend to appeal to completists only, but Lost Blues chronicles some of Oldham’s most stirring moments. There are few musicians who can come off sounding so distressed and not be crucified for it, but there is no one I’d rather hear brood about how there really is no one to take care of us. With the Ano*Moanon at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $7. (202) 667-7960. (Brett Anderson)
