Beckoning to me from the back of the Salvation Army thrift shop, the four-piece deco bedroom set was a bargain that I, strapped for cash, was loathe to give up on. The headboard was more than a little beat-up, the dresser was badly scratched, but even still, the elegant curves and stylish detailing whisked my fancy back to a time when ladies and gents of taste were unafraid to embellish their surroundings with refined motifs, simple geometric patterns, and loads of Bakelite. Luckily, a little window shopping is just what the decor ordered at the “14th Annual Exposition of the Decorative Arts,” sponsored by the Art Deco Society of Washington. From 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at Mellon Auditorium, 13th & Constitution Ave. NW. $7. (202) 298-1100. (Amy Domingues)
