Legendary English folk-rock band Steeleye Span is going strong after more than 25 years. The group’s precise harmonies and full-out rock ‘n’ reel instrumental support have gone unmatched. The 1997 edition of Steeleye Span includes lead vocalist Maddy Prior (the only remaining original member), and other longtime colleagues Bob Johnson and Peter Knight. Gay Woods reunited with the band in 1994 after 24 years, and the newest members are Tim Harries (on bass and keyboards), and Liam Genockey (on drums). Tonight’s audience should request favorites such as “Thomas the Rhymer” and “The Weaver and the Factory Maid,” as well as newer tunes like “The Elf-Knight” and “The Song Will Remain,” an original piece that could serve as the theme song for a band whose appeal now spans generations. At 8 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $17.50. (703) 549-5919. (Ken Roseman)
