SUNDAY
The really new band Computer Cougar is made up of East Coast emo-indie veterans from Rorschach, Greyhouse, and Radio to Saturn. The group ambitiously continues in the tradition of U.K. anti-traditionalists such as Gang of Four, Wire, early Public Image, and the Pop Group, and sometimes sounds like one of the above making a streetwise comeback. By adding a dose of East Coast neurosis and post-hardcore melody, Computer Cougar manages to revive a distinctly early-’80s post-punk vibe that’s rarely tapped into. The Sorts play at the other end of post-punk, carving a niche with instrumentals that favor jazz and ’70s art-rock. They approximate improvisation and possess the kind of intuition that comes only with unthinkable hours in the practice room. At 10:30 p.m. at Galaxy Hut, 2711 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. FREE. (703) 525-8646. (John Dugan)
