“There are only two types of people who are always happy,” Richard Jeni has said: “The devoutly religious and the criminally insane.” Good comedians, of course, are a little of both—they worship laughter and irrationally prostrate themselves before the public in order to get it. Not surprising, then, that so many comics profess to feeling truly satisfied only while onstage. Jeni’s crazy church sermons are delivered with a smirk—appropriate these days. You won’t leave absolved, but some happiness will be dispensed at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday at the Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $12. (202) 296-7008. (DN)
