There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Marty Stuart’s guitar licks and songwriting have always played second fiddle to his outrageous stage garb and his higher-profile collaborators. But hard as it is to look beyond the Nudies and the Lester Flatts and Johnny Cashes and Travis Tritts, such a gander is worthwhile. Everybody in Music City knows that the one-time Wunderkind from Philadelphia, Miss., can play and write with the best the town has to offer, but over his 25-year career, industry bigwigs and radio programmers have rarely put that word out, and the ever-smiling Stuart, still sporting the biggest ‘do of any dude in country, never seems to mind not being a top banana as long as he can dress like one. For more of the same, Stuart supports Willie Nelson’s latest tour, which stops by at 8 p.m. at Wolf Trap Filene Center, 1624 Trap Rd., Vienna. $16-26. (703) 255-6500. (Dave McKenna)
