There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Summer is the ideal season for Kenny Rankin’s music. His limpid, chord-running vocals and nimble guitar refresh without making excessive emotional demands. On this visit to Blues Alley, he’ll be performing material from his new CD, Here in My Heart, a breezy collection of Brazilian songs by Ivan Lins, Louis Bonfa, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, pop standards (“Come Rain or Come Shine,” “I’ve Just Seen a Face”), and originals. An hour with Rankin won’t change your life, but it’s guaranteed to ease you through the dog days. At 8 & 10 p.m. at Blues Alley, 1073 Rear Wisconsin Ave. NW. $18. (202) 337-4141. (Joel E. Siegel)
